During this year's Summer Session at the University of Manitoba, a labour studies course, The Essentials of Union Organizing is being offered.
The course will be held on Tuesdays from 6-9 pm and Saturdays from 9:30 am - 4 pm between May 28th and June 22nd, 2013.
The course will address all stages of an organizing campaign, from the initial contact with a group of workers, up to the certification and the post-certification mobilization for a first contract. Federal and provincial legislation, strategies, best practices, methods and challenges such as employer interference and employees’ objections will be examined in detail. Students will put the theory into practice and develop their own organizing skills through interactive and practical exercises.
Non-University of Manitoba students must apply for admission to the University through Extended Education: http://umanitoba.ca/extended/general_studies/
Approximate cost: $400, or about $200 to audit (no academic credit).
