Between August 24th and September 14th, Technical Professional Paramedical members in the newly formed Prairie Mountain Health region were given the opportunity to choose their union in a representation vote by mail-in ballot.

At the Manitoba Labour Board today, the 488 ballots were counted in the vote between members of the MGEU and the MAHCP, and a decision was finally made as to which union would represent these 820 members at the bargaining table, in grievance proceedings, and in their workplace.

Here are the results (which remain unofficial until confirmed by the Labour Board in the coming days):

MGEU - 305 ballots
MAHCP - 179 ballots
4 spoiled ballots

MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky, was extremely excited to hear the results.

“I’m honoured that those of you in Prairie Mountain Health have chosen the MGEU and I want to welcome all the new members. I know it’s been a very long campaign for everyone involved. I can’t wait to begin working with you all in the Technical Professional Paramedical Component.”

Once the Manitoba Labour Board issues a new certificate to the MGEU, all workers involved in this vote will officially become MGEU members. In the meantime, the MGEU will begin working with the MAHCP on a transition process that will allow the MGEU to handle any outstanding grievances and issues.

Until a new contract is negotiated between representatives of the MGEU and the employer, each union’s previous collect agreement will remain in place.

Please contact the MGEU Resource Centre at 1-866-982-6438 to speak to a representative about this, or any union issue.
