Contract negotiations are set to begin this Monday (November 19, 2012) for approximately 90 MGEU members who work at the Main Street Project.
Main Street Project members are coming off of a four-year agreement and, as is the case with most not-for-profit bargaining, workers are focused on fair compensation to address the problem of lagging salaries in the social services field. Members are also seeking improvements to working conditions.
“Our members at Main Street Project do an amazing job in the face of a very challenging work environment. And as the temperature drops at this time of year, the need for the services they provide is amplified,” says MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky.
Members at Main Street Project deal with Winnipeg’s most vulnerable citizens providing service in a 24-hour crisis centre, emergency shelter, detoxification unit, transition services, mainstay residence, and the intoxicated persons detention area.
