MGEU Members of the Society for Manitobans With Disabilities (SMD) have ratified a new three-year contract.
SMD has approximately 105 members. The first year of the deal (effective April 1, 2011) does not include a wage increase. However, the second year has a general wage increase of 2.75% and the third year also includes a 2.75% general wage increase. As well, effective April 1, 2012, members who have twenty years of service and have been at the top of their wage scale for twelve months will be eligible to receive a 2% long-service step
Improvements to the agreement were also made in the areas of mileage, meal allowances, and the safety footwear allowance.
The MGEU bargaining committee will be contacting the employer to get the agreement finalized and signed before it’s printed and distributed to SMD members. In the meantime, members are encouraged to update their contact information to ensure they receive a copy of the new contract once available.
