A vote planning meeting held on November 15th for the newly formed Prairie Mountain Health (formerly the Assiniboine, Brandon and Parkland Regional Health Authorities) resulted in a unilateral decision by the Manitoba Labour Board to conduct a mail-in ballot vote.

The ballots for the Prairie Mountain Health vote for Health Care Support Service members will be mailed out by the Manitoba Labour Board on January 4th, 2013. All completed ballots have to be received back at the Manitoba Labour Board offices in Winnipeg no later than January 25th. Any ballots received after that date will not be counted.

MGEU will be holding 'Come and Go' meetings across the region and encourages everyone to come out and discuss the upcoming representation vote in order to cast a well-informed vote.

Although in the past the unions involved have been provided personal addresses of affected members, the Manitoba Labour Board has decided not to release the addresses for this vote, making it difficult to inform members of the benefits of each union and requiring additional time to hold meetings at each work-site, which increases the length of the votes.

Because of this decision by the Manitoba Labour Board, it is imperative that everyone who is eligible to vote makes sure their home address is up-to-date with their employer. If you’re unsure that the Manitoba Labour has been given your correct mailing address, please contact your employer immediately.

Should you have any questions regarding the representation votes, please contact the MGEU Resource Centre.
