For 2012, the MGEU has expanded the list of bursaries and scholarships available to members and their family.

This year, two $1,000 bursaries were awarded for each of the union’s eight geographic areas – one for members and one for spouses or children of members. The union also added a new $2,000 scholarship named in honour of former MGEU President, Peter Olfert.

Everyone who sent in their application this year had to be a post-secondary student and submit a written essay about the labour movement in Canada, public sector unions in the Canadian labour movement, or women’s involvement in the labour movement.

The education committee and the Health Care Support Services Component evaluated many worthy applications. Here are the winners (M - Member, NM Non- Member):
