In all his years working for the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission, Stephen Roznowsky had never attended the head office Christmas party in Winnipeg. That was, until the MLCC’s acting CAO called him this past November and asked to attend this year’s party.

Roznowsky had no idea why he was being asked to attend but he jokes, “I knew they weren’t going to fire me.”

It was only when he was presented with the Liquor Commission’s Award of Distinction in Community Service on November 26 that he realized why he had received a special invite. “It was definitely a nice surprise… right out of the blue.”

Roznowsky, who is the MGEU’s 2nd Vice-President, is a dedicated activist in Area 2 (Dauphin and surrounding area). He’s volunteered his time as the organizer of the Dauphin Terry Fox Run for the past 13 years and has used his vacation time for the past 35 years to work at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He’s also volunteered with Operation Red Nose, the RCMP R.I.D.E. program, Countryfest, Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival, the 2010 RBC Cup (National Junior Hockey Tournament), and Theatre Amisk.

Steve received recommendations from fellow MLCC members, members of the local business community and the Mayor of Dauphin who called Steve, “one of our community’s greatest volunteers.”

Congratulations Steve for all of your hard work!

Ken Hildahl Receives Business Innovation Award

At the same award ceremony, Ken Hildahl, the MLCC’s late President and former MGEU Director of Operations, was honoured as the first-ever recipient of the Business Innovation Award. Ken’s impact on the MLCC can be felt through his part in the creation of the MLCC Innovation Team – an avenue by which employees can channel their creative ideas directly to the very top of the company. Ken believed that providing all employees with the opportunity to voice their ideas was very important to an organization’s long-term success. Ken’s wife Judy and son Jeff accepted the award in his memory.
