MGEU members and staff served up six hundred spaghetti meals today for what has become one of the union’s longest-running United Way fundraisers.

President Lois Wales joined fellow MGEU members and Portage residents in a busy legion hall for the 16th instalment of the MGEU Spaghetti Lunch.

The event raised over $4,000 for the United Way. The MGEU covered the cost of food and provided the volunteers to prepare meals with help from inmates at the Portage Correctional Centre. The Royal Canadian Legion donated the space for the lunch.

“Events like this are so important, because supporting the United Way is so important. In supporting this organization we are collectively working to strengthen families in our communities and in doing so we strengthen the very fabric of our communities,” said Wales.

All of the money raised by this event stays in the community to fund various programs and services offered by organizations in Portage and the surrounding communities. The Portage campaign goal this year is $225,000. To find out how you can help them meet that goal, contact the Portage Plains United Way.
