After almost 40 years in the making, all Public Health Inspectors in Winnipeg will now work for the Province of Manitoba.

Yesterday, in an information session between the province, the City of Winnipeg, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU), the Public Health Inspectors (PHI’s) were given a basic overview of their employee transition agreement.

Douglas Cieszynski, Director of Negotiation Services for the Province of Manitoba, outlined details of the agreement, including comparisons in salary, benefits and vacation between to two collective agreements.

Representatives from both MGEU and CUPE were also on hand to answer questions that the 16 PHI’s might have about the transition.

“We’ve been talking about this transition for years,” said Bill Anderson, MGEU Director of Negotiation Services. “It’s nice to see it finally coming to fruition.”

The Public Health Inspectors will be given letters of offer from the Province before January 2012 and all transfers will be effective April 1, 2012.
