Each year, the MGEU awards eight $1,000 bursaries (one for each of the union’s eight geographic areas) to qualifying members, spouses or children of members. The union also awards The Joseph Grenier Bursary to a spouse, child or member of the Health Care Support Services component.

Applicants must be a post-secondary student and must write an essay about the labour movement in Canada, public sector unions in the Canadian labour movement, or women’s involvement in the labour movement.

This year, the education committee and the Health Care Support Services Component evaluated a number of worthy applications, but there could only be eight recipients. Here are the winners:

Area 1: Michele Stoltz
Area 2: Deanna Pizunski
Area 3: Shellan Vertz
Area 4: Jaycee McLaren
Area 5: Meaghan Syganiec
Area 6: Jennifer Setlack
Area 7: Ryan Klassen
Area 8: Amy Carriere

Joe Grenier Bursary: Michelle Kalma

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients and thank you to everyone who submitted an application.

Due to the lock out of CUPW members, we have decided to post the names of recipients on our website under the assumption that the personal letters sent to all applicants may be delayed. If you have any questions, please contact the MGEU Resource Centre at (1-866) 982-6438.
