Every year, The Advertising Association of Winnipeg  holds the Signature Awards, a gala that has been celebrating the best in the advertising industry since 1988. Encouraging a social exchange of ideas and peer support, the Signature Awards recognizes exceptional creative work produced in Manitoba in a variety of categories. Entries are reviewed by a qualified panel of national and international judges and winners are commended at the gala event.

The 2011 Signature Awards were presented last night at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. At the gala, the MGEU ad "Woke" was recognized for best TV or Cinema Single over $20,000.

The television ad ran on Manitoba television stations in January and February: a man tells his story of how a wide range of health care professionals, including paramedics, ultrasound, EKG and lab technologists, pharmacists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and case coordinators were vital to his survival and recovery after brain trauma.

The MGEU’s Technical/Professional/Paramedical Component is currently at the bargaining table. In the voice over for the ad, the man says “I didn’t even know most of the professions existed. But these people – amazing people – gave me my life back.”
