MGEU would like to support the West Broadway Youth Outreach Inc. by accepting donations of running shoes at our Winnipeg Office at 601-275 Broadway, any time between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday before Wednesday, May 4th.
On Sunday, June 5, hundreds of Winnipeggers will gather in West Broadway for The 5ish Fun Run to raise money for West Broadway Youth Outreach (WBYO).
Working with up to 100 kids every week, WBYO works to create a safe, positive and fun environment that keeps kids off the street during peak after-school and evening hours. In 2010, hundreds of children from the West Broadway neighbourhood and surrounding area participated in dozens of programs including Homework Club, swimming lessons, Music Jam Sessions, Team Sports Night, Piano, Yoga, Cooking and Computers. The 5ish Fun Run will help expand these programs and meet the needs of local-area children.
Unfortunately, not all children have an extra pair of running shoes they can run and play in outside. Many children in our city have just one pair of shoes that have to be kept at their school for indoor gym classes.
WBYO wants to give all children who come to the program the opportunity to participate in The 5ish. That’s why WBYO is asking Winnipeggers to hunt through their closets this spring for children’s running shoes that no longer fit, but can still be worn by another child. The 5ish Kicks for Kids campaign will help ensure all children have the chance to run The 5ish and keep running all summer long.
