The MGEU just finished hosting two fun family skating events and it’s evident from all of the smiling faces on the ice that both were a hit with kids, even those just learning how to stay upright on their skates.

The first event took place in Portage on February 20th and last night in Selkirk the union hosted the second event from 5-6pm at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

As a league sponsor of the MJHL, the MGEU was able to welcome union members and their families to join players from the Portage Terriers and Selkirk Steelers in a free skate, autograph session and a bite to eat. More than 50 members took to the ice with the Terriers and more than 70 joined the Steelers in Selkirk.

“We had a great time, and my son will never forget the time that he got to shoot the puck with a Steeler!" said MGEU member Sasha Carter. "You guys made a dream come true for a very grateful and excited three year old. I hope that this will be an annual event!”

Last year the union hosted similar events in Dauphin, The Pas and Steinbach as part of its ongoing effort to support community events and allow members to enjoy the value-added benefits of being an MGEU member.
