Over the past several days, MGEU members from Red River College and Assiniboine Community College have voted to accept or reject a four-year contract settlement offer put forward by the college’s management team. Tonight the ballots were counted, and the result is a majority of members at the Colleges have voted to accept the settlement offer.

“We are pleased that a strike could be averted in this situation and that a majority of employees were satisfied enough with the offer put forward that they voted to accept,” said Peter Olfert, president of the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union. “I know the members are most pleased that students will not have their studies interrupted.”

The MGEU represents approximately 1,600 college employees at the two southern colleges.
