More than a hundred citizens and a host of dignitaries were on-hand today at the Second Annual Celebration of Life Awards Ceremony and Luncheon to recognize two civilian heroes and a host of Paramedics from MGEU Local 911 who went above and beyond in saving lives in our community over the past year.

"The Celebration of Life Awards Ceremony provides us an opportunity to showcase a small sample of the great work done by department employees every day,” said Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Chief Jim Brennan. “During the ceremony department members are recognized for their extraordinary service and civilians receive recognition for their contribution in helping make Winnipeg a safer place."

The event, which is part of EMS Week celebrations, also provides an opportunity to see and understand what kinds of challenges Paramedics face on the job each and every day.

“I appreciate the chance for members of the public to get a glimpse into what we do as EMS workers in Winnipeg,” said MGEU Local 911 President Chris Broughton. “Whether it’s delivering babies or dealing with heart attacks or attending to major trauma cases – we’re there, and we’re proud of what we do on behalf of our community.”
