This spring, the MGEU is encouraging members to register a team for the Canadian Mental Health Association's (CMHA) Ride Don't Hide event to get moving, give back and feel better.
"Through the MGEU's Healthy Minds at Work campaign, we’re working to engage members and their employers in efforts to create the kind of workplaces that promote and support good mental health," said MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky. "CMHA Manitoba is a vital partner of ours in these efforts so their annual fundraiser seemed a fun way to get our Local members involved and contributing towards our goal of psychologically safe workplaces for all."
Funds that MGEU teams raise through pledges will be matched by the union (up to $25,000) and be invested directly back into workplace mental health initiatives where those members live.
"It's wonderful that CMHA has offices throughout the province," Gawronsky said, "so members can raise money that will be devoted to programs right in their own workplaces and community."
The MGEU has scheduled a brief webinar on Tuesday, May 18 at 7:30 pm to go over how to participate. Members can join President Gawronsky, along with Stephen and Brandon from CMHA, to find out how to put together their virtual MGEU team and raise funds.
"Most people will probably register by work location, but friends and family are welcome, too, and there's all kinds of things you can do other than ride a bike. Walk, jump rope, do yoga...any activity that gets you moving is great. After this incredibly tough year, we hope this is just a really positive opportunity to kick-start summer 2021."
