MGEU forest firefighters are once again heading to British Columbia to help battle fires that continue to rage through the province.

A group of 40 forest firefighters left yesterday to join the forest firefighting campaign in British Columbia. This is the third time Manitoba has sent a crew to B.C. this summer.

Because Manitoba has had such cool, wet weather, 2009 has been one of the slowest forest fire seasons on record. There have been 141 fires to date this season and there are currently no fires burning in Manitoba right now. On average Manitoba would normally have had about 500 fires by September.

The Manitoba crew will be joining a flight from Ontario, which is also sending firefighters to B.C.
