MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky, issued the following statement in response to the news that a Manitoba Health Care Worker has died from COVID-19:
On behalf of all MGEU members, I want to extend condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Jean Claude Dianzenza, a Victoria General Hospital health care aide who has died from COVID-19.
For eight long months now, workers on the front-lines have been battling this pandemic while assisting and caring for their fellow Manitobans 24-7. There are real heroes among us – in our hospitals, care homes, correctional centres, community living facilities, and many more community settings. In the face of incredible demands, and substantial personal risk, they continue to show up and get the job done with compassion, strength, and courage.
Time and again, these brave Manitobans have turned to their provincial leaders for additional support, including health and safety measures that will keep all front-line workers safe. This loss is a loss to us all, and will inspire us to never give up.
For all of you who continue to work through the second wave, please know that we are with you. We salute your efforts and we will continue to demand our provincial and national leaders do everything in their power to provide the supports you need.
