Today, the MGEU released the 2020-21 Membership Education Course Guide with some new options for learning-at-home.

“For a while now, we’ve been actively exploring options for online learning to make it easier for members to attend training,” says MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “And I’m pleased to say that we’re piloting three on-line courses this fall."

“Of course, we’re continuing to offer in-person classes as well, as long as public health orders allow.”

Because the COVID-19 situation in Manitoba will be evolving continually over the next several months, Gawronsky asked for members’ patience as the union works to deliver courses in new ways and amidst public health guidelines that continue to change unexpectedly.

“We’re reminding everyone of the need to stay flexible as we go through this together and work at providing some on-line options for the first time,” Gawronsky said. “It’s an opportunity to try this out and possibly make distance learning a key feature of our education program, even once pandemic-related concerns are no longer an issue.”

Due to the pandemic, this year’s guide does not include a course schedule. To register, elected Workplace Representatives will be encouraged to log into their account on THE SOURCE, or watch their inbox or their mailbox to see courses available to them eight weeks in advance of the available course date.

For those who don’t hold an elected MGEU position, You and Your Union Membership Information Sessions are also returning in 2020/21. The sessions are designed to help MGEU members who have never held an elected position learn more about their union. Any eligible member wishing to register for one of these sessions (see page 7 of the 2020-21 Membership Education Course Guide for details) can contact the MGEU Resource Centre.
