The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has launched their 2020 Scholarship Program with some enhancements this year.

New for 2020, NUPGE is adding the $2,500 Young Worker Scholarship, which will be awarded to two entrants. The eligibility requirements for this scholarship differ from NUPGE’s other scholarships as it’s not just for first-year university/college students. Anyone under the age of 30 can apply, providing they meet the other criteria.

The other big news for this year is that NUPGE is increasing all other scholarships from $1,500 to $2,500. Applicants for the following scholarships must be entering their first year of studies at a Canadian public post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis in 2020 and must be the children/ grandchildren, or foster children/grandchildren of MGEU members or MGEU retirees:

Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Scholarship for LGBTQI2S Students

Scholarship for Students of Colour

Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship

Tommy Douglas Scholarship

All scholarships are awarded based on the best 750–1,000 word essay submitted in each respective category (Please note: additional requirements apply for some scholarships).

The deadline for all NUPGE scholarship applications and essays is July 6, 2020.

Winners and their essays will be published by NUPGE in September 2020. For further information, please call 613-228-9800, email scholarship@nupge.ca or visit the National Union’s Scholarship Program page.
