It is with heavy hearts that the MGEU mourns the passing of long-time member and dedicated activist, Bill McLachlan. He became a member in 1982 within the Corrections Component of the Civil Service, as a Juvenile Counsellor at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Bill began his union activism in 1987 as a steward in his Local, and was the Local President from 2000 – 2008. He sat on the MGEU Board of Directors as the Corrections Component Director from 2002-2004, and held various other elected positions including Component Chairperson, Member at Large and Chief Steward until his retirement in 2011.

Bill was an extremely kind and dedicated union activist, showing strong commitment in all his efforts to represent his fellow workers and his union.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Elmwood Legion at 920 Nairn Avenue from 1 – 3 pm.
