What all members need to know in the event of a Canada Post work stoppage

In preparation for a potential Canada Post work stoppage, the MGEU is ceasing all postal delivery to MGEU members as of today (Thursday, September 20). This practice will continue until the labour dispute is resolved. The union is also asking members to not mail anything to the MGEU which requires a timely response, as it is not known when it will be delivered.

If you have questions about how to proceed with a specific issue, please read the following information:

Member Expenses / Payments

Members who receive payment from the union will need to make arrangements to submit their expenses online during the Canada Post work stoppage. For elected workplace representatives, this can be done through THE SOURCE. Those who have not already signed up must create an account on The SOURCE home page.

Expense cheques from the union will not be sent through the mail starting today until the potential work stoppage ends. To continue to receive payments, members are encouraged to set up direct deposit with the MGEU. Members will need to print off the form and fax it to 204-982-6499 or drop it off at an MGEU office. Please ensure that your direct deposit application includes a void cheque or a letter from your bank confirming your account information. Applications received without this cannot be processed. To make other arrangements to receive payments, please contact the MGEU Resource Centre.

Time-off Letters and Meeting Notices

Members will not receive any time-off letters or meeting notices in the mail after today. Time-off letters will only be sent by fax or email. As meeting notices are issued, they will be emailed to members of affected Locals and we encourage Local representatives in these workplaces to print these notices and post them on MGEU Bulletin Boards in their workplaces for other members to view.

All meeting notices are also posted on the MGEU events calendar or can be provided over the phone through the MGEU Resource Centre.

Grievances and other important documentation

Members should make arrangements with their MGEU Staff Representative if they must send sensitive information to the union. Please do not place this information in the mail until after the Canada Post labour dispute has been resolved.

During the possible work stoppage, all MGEU membership applications, cards, and collective agreements will not be mailed starting today. All MGEU Contracts are available online, and membership application forms will be available for pick up at our Head Office or any Regional Office. Completed membership application forms can be dropped off at any MGEU office.

Member Education Course Enrollment

During the potential work stoppage, elected MGEU Workplace Reps will receive information about enrolling in MGEU courses by email only. As always, those members are encouraged to register for courses online through THE SOURCE

Bargaining Information and Local Updates

During the Canada Post work stoppage, important or time-sensitive information about bargaining or other Local issues will be emailed to members. If you have not provided the Union with your current personal email address, please update your information here.

All bargaining updates for Locals currently in negotiations are posted online ‘At the Bargaining Table’.

Other correspondence with the Union

Any other correspondence or non-essential print communication with the Union during the work stoppage should be done by email (resourcecentre@mgeu.ca), fax (204-942-2146), or by calling 204-982-MGEU(6438) (Toll-Free 1-866-982-MGEU(6438).
