Today, MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky presented $5,000 in strike support to workers of the Winnipeg James Richardson International Airport who have been on strike for over ten weeks.

“I know from experience how hard strikes can be, mentally, physically, emotionally and financially.  I want these workers to know that the MGEU will continue to stand in solidarity with them until a fair deal is reached,” said Gawronsky, at a solidarity rally today for those on strike.

Approximately 150 workers from the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) Local 50600, who are also members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) went on strike, July 24. This includes duty managers, administrative workers, various tradespersons, IT workers, airfield maintenance, and labourers. They have been without a contract since October 2016 and their employer refuses to stop contracting out their work.

In an act of solidarity, the MGEU has suspended union related air travel from the Winnipeg James Richardson International Airport, and will continue the boycott until the strike ends.
