Northern MGEU members joined President Michelle Gawronsky last night to celebrate the grand opening of the MGEUs newest office in Thompson.

“This new space will help us to better serve members in the Thompson area,” said Michelle Gawronsky.  “We’ll now have enough space to host Local meetings and we’ll have the ability to do video conferencing. This will allow members to participate in important meetings without having to travel long hours.”

The original MGEU office in Thompson – a small, single-room located within the Thompson Steel Centre – first opened in 1980. With these renovations, the MGEU’s space quadruples – from 220 sq. feet to 850 sq. feet.

Thompson Staff Representative, Laura Nelson – who has worked in the office since 2007 – will continue to serve the just over 800 MGEU members who live in the region.

The Thompson location is just the latest in a series of upgrades and expansions to MGEU offices over the last several years, including the union’s headquarters at the Union Centre in Winnipeg, as well as the regional offices in Dauphin, Portage, Brandon, The Pas, Selkirk and Steinbach.
