The Day of Mourning is an international observance for workers killed, injured or made ill by their job. The declaration of April 28 as the Day of Mourning in Canada was first recognized in 1991, and flags flew at half-mast and ceremonies were held across the country to recognize the lives needlessly lost and the suffering of those left in the wake of workplace tragedy.
