Paramedics from MGEU Local 911 joined forces with members of the Bear Clan Patrol today to help teach them the valuable skills of CPR and basic first aid training.

“I’m so proud of our paramedics for sharing their expertise and time. It’s always important we give back to our communities and this is yet another example of that,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky.  “The Bear Clan Patrol provide an invaluable service in the city of Winnipeg and no doubt come across people in vulnerable situations.  Having CPR and basic first aid training is another tool that will help them when they are on the streets.”

The MGEU is the largest union in Manitoba with over 40,000 members – over 1000 of which are paramedics.

The Bear Clan formed in September 2015 and patrol the streets in Winnipeg’s north end, keeping an eye out for anyone that might be in an unsafe situation.  They now have over 370 volunteers, 220 of them new since August 2016.

“The only way a group like ours can sustain itself is if we have community support, and I’m so thankful to the MGEU for providing this training to our members today,” said James Favel, Bear Clan Organizer.  “Our main goal is to build healthy relationships in our communities and be positive role models for our youth.”
