Today, the ballots were counted and members from Nisichawayasihk Personal Care Home, Local 367 in Nelson House (NCN) voted to give their Bargaining Committee a strike mandate.

Their collective agreement expired on March 31, 2016. On July 28, 2016 they rejected the final offer received from the employer on June 30th.

The members then allowed time for the employer to seek further funding from the Federal Government before they decided on their next steps. To date the MGEU has not received an update on these funding efforts. Therefore our members felt they had no choice but to prepare for job action in order to get a fair deal.

“Currently the PCH workers in Nelson House are making significantly less than PCH workers in Manitoba including Thompson, only 100 km away,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “These are dedicated workers that care for the elders in the community and deserve to be treated fairly.”
