In preparation for a possible Canada Post work stoppage, the MGEU ceased all postal delivery to its members on Friday, June 24, 2016. This continued until July 12, when the union decided to resume posting most items in the mail due to the postponement of the expected work stoppage.

Any mail that was being held by the union will now be sent, with the exception of cheques to members. If Canada Post announces another date for a possible work stoppage, the union will once again withhold mail from the system to avoid the possibility of it being hung-up with Canada Post for an extended period. If you have questions about how to proceed with a specific issue, please read the following information:

Member Expense/Payments

Members who receive payment from the union will need to make arrangements to submit their expenses online during this time. This can be done through The Source if you are an elected workplace representative. Those who have not already signed up must create an account on The Source home page.

Expense cheques from the union will not be sent through the mail until the possibility of a work stoppage is over. To continue to receive these payments, members are encouraged to set up direct deposit with the MGEU. Members will need to print off the form and fax it to 204-982-6499. To make other arrangements to receive payments, please contact the MGEU Resource Centre.

Time-off Letters and Meeting Notices

The union will now resume issuing time-off letters and meeting notices in the mail. All meeting notices are also posted on the MGEU events calendar.

Grievances and other important documentation

Members can place this information in the mail, but should be mindful that with a Canada Post work stoppage possible, they may want to find other arrangements to send important information to their Staff Representative.

Over the past couple of weeks all MGEU membership applications, cards, and collective agreements were not mailed. Those items that were being held will now be mailed to members. All MGEU Contracts are available online, and membership application forms are available for pick-up at all MGEU offices.

Bargaining Information and Local Updates

Information about bargaining or other Local issues will continue to be emailed and mailed to members. If you have not provided the Union with your current personal email address, please update your information here.

All bargaining updates for Locals currently in negotiations are posted online At the Bargaining Table’.

Other correspondence with the Union

Any other correspondence or non-essential print communication with the Union can now be done by mail. Please note that members should watch for a possible Canada Post work stoppage before posting anything in the mail. Correspondence can be completed with the union by email (resourcecentre@mgeu.ca) or by fax (204-942-2146).

For members interested in submitting their Rainbow Stage ticket order form and payment, that information can now be mailed if the member is comfortable doing so (there is still a risk it could be held up in the mail). The MGEU recommends members drop off order forms and payment in-person at the MGEU Head Office (601-275 Broadway, Winnipeg). The deadline for this discount is July 20, 2016.
