Every year, National Paramedic Services Week focuses attention on the diverse ways Canada’s paramedics work to save lives and improve health outcomes for millions of people across the country.
This year, the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada has proclaimed May 22 – 28 as National Paramedic Services Week. The Manitoba Government is also proclaiming this week Paramedic Services Week here in Manitoba. MGEU paramedics, along with the Paramedic Association of Manitoba (PAM), recently joined Kelvin Goertzen, Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living for the presentation of the proclamation, which states that “paramedic services are a vital component of our health care system.”
In 2014-15 there were 116,337 paramedic patient transports in Manitoba which included: 5,537 fixed wing basic air ambulance, 101 rotary wing air ambulance, 565 South Air Ambulance Program, 561 Lifeflight, 56,406 rural ground ambulance, and 53,167 Winnipeg ground ambulance transports.
“That’s a lot of activity for a province
with just over a million people and that’s why we honour the women and men who
save lives and work with integrity and excellence every day in their service to
Manitobans. We understand the important role paramedics play in delivering
quality public health care in our province and today we say, ‘thank you’ for
all that you do!”
