MGEU members and staff, including MGEU President Michelle
Gawronsky, served up almost 600 meals today in what has become one of the
union’s most popular fundraisers – the MGEU Spaghetti Lunch in support of the
Portage Plains United Way.
“I had this event circled on my calendar for a while now,”
said Gawronsky sporting a bright red MGEU apron as she ladled spaghetti sauce onto
dinners. “The community really embraces this fundraiser and so do our members
in the area. I want to thank everyone involved for making this year’s event so
successful.”
Approximately $4,500 was raised today for the Portage Plains
United Way, which currently supports 12 agencies in the region (including
Portage Big Brothers Big Sisters, Portage Service for Seniors, Sunset
Palliative Care, and Tupper Street Family Resource Centre).
“It really helps to show the support the MGEU has for the
United Way, but also the strong support in the community,” said Mandy Dubois,
Executive Director of Portage Plains United Way. “Without events like this,
we'd never reach our goal, which is why our partnership with MGEU has been so
very important.”
