Deadline: November 23, 2015

The MGEU is once again offering a Membership Training and Apprenticeship Program (MTAP) opportunity. The MTAP is an intensive six-month development program for MGEU members interested in enhancing their representation and advocacy skills and knowledge.

During the program, the MTAP trainee will work closely with a multi-level team of Staff Representatives to learn more about advocating on behalf of members to resolve workplace issues, complaints, and grievances. The trainee will work with other activists, selecting dates for local meetings and acting as a support for those meetings. The trainee will also be required, as requested, to represent the MGEU at local events or stakeholder meetings.

This training opportunity is conditional upon the MGEU successfully arranging a leave of absence for the successful applicant. While in this program, the successful applicant will receive salary and benefits as set out under the terms of the staff (A.C.T.E.) collective agreement and will not engage in any political activities of the Union during the term of the training. Applicants should understand that upon completion of the training program there is no guarantee of employment.

To be considered for this program, experience as an MGEU workplace representative, the ability to promote Labour, and the ability to navigate through a unionized workplace is required. The ability to read and interpret collective agreements and other related legislation and regulations is also required. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills are a must. This opportunity involves flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) along with travel (including overnight hotel stays).

The application deadline for this MTAP opportunity has passed. Please visit Employment Opportunities for future MTAP opportunities when they are posted.
