MGEU Local 249 HSC Security has been at the bargaining table with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority for three years. But after all that time, the main sticking point in reaching a resolution remains: a fair wage offer to address retention issues and the associated safety risks of the job.

With little changing at the bargaining table, the Local organized a strike vote. Over the past two days, members have cast their ballots. Tonight those ballots were counted, revealing overwhelming support for strike action.

The Local’s Bargaining Committee will be asking the employer to resume negotiations and will take the strong strike mandate delivered by the membership today back to the bargaining table in order to help reach a new, improved offer.
