home care - community support rally

The MGEU Community Support Bargaining Committee, along with the Winnipeg Home Care Local 113 Executive, is organizing a public rally at the WRHA Office (650 Main St.) on Thursday, August 6, 2015 (10 – 11:30 am) to draw attention to concerns they’ve raised at the bargaining table.

Many trained home care workers are leaving the field because unresolved scheduling issues mean they’re often on the job for hours more than they’re paid for. It’s not uncommon for them to work a 9.5 hour day and get paid for 8 hours!

Meanwhile, minimum guidelines for completing tasks have drastically reduced the amount of time workers are given to care for clients, which rushes care and puts the health and well-being of our most vulnerable Manitobans’ at risk.

All MGEU members are invited to attend the rally and show their support. For those who can’t make it, organizers are asking for their help by sharing this story on social media and by asking friends, family, or anyone else, to attend in support.

It’s time to ensure this program is able to deliver the level of support Manitobans’ need in their homes, and the care we all deserve! Please attend and show your support.
