Manitoba's largest women's shelter now has a new name.
Osborne House, a shelter for women and children who have
been victims of domestic violence, has been renamed "Willow Place."
The organization, which operates a 45-bed shelter with
counseling, advocacy and referral services in Winnipeg, assists more than 800
women and children fleeing domestic abuse per year.
Willow Place has a new community board, but many of the
experienced staff from Osborne House remain, including seven MGEU members.
The former Osborne House MGEU Local 160 will become MGEU
Local 160 – Willow Place, and successor rights are being respected so that
members will remain covered by the existing contract.
