Provincial Liquor workers (GOLICO, Locals 56-61) ratified a new four-year agreement yesterday.

Thanks to the strong directive of the membership, the bargaining committee was able to ward off concessions brought forward by the employer. Ninety-seven percent of those who cast a ballot, voted in favour of accepting this latest offer from the employer.

The new agreement maintains the current sick day policy, has minor tweaks to shift premiums and updated dental coverage, which was very important to members. It also includes a modest wage increase of 1.5% (retroactive to March 25, 2014) for the first year of the agreement, and increases of 2%, 2% and 2.5% consecutively in the last three years of the agreement.

“After two years of zeroes and an agreement to extend the contract by a year, I’m pleased we were able to fight off concessions at the bargaining table and achieve a reasonable wage increase with minor tweaks to benefits. I’m proud of the solidarity shown by this group,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky.

While the bargaining committee and the employer get the agreement finalized and signed so it can be printed and distributed to members, everyone in the Local is encouraged to update their contact information here.
