A tentative agreement was reached last night between the bargaining committee for MGEU’s 868 liquor workers and the negotiating team representing Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation (MBLL). It is the MGEU’s policy that members will be provided the terms of the agreement before making comments publicly.
“When the employer tabled a final offer so close to the holiday season, which is the corporation’s busiest time and a time when Manitobans gather to celebrate with family and friends, we knew the pressure would be on our bargaining committee,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “I am very proud of the work they have done, and the solidarity shown by this entire group of employees.”
“This was not an easy process for anyone, and it’s important to remember that these workers have families of their own who were facing the uncertainty of a possible strike over the holiday season, but the hard work done here has resulted in a deal the bargaining committee can recommend acceptance of.”
The next step in this process is for ratification meetings to be held to determine if a majority of members will either vote to accept or reject the employer’s latest offer. Logistics, including times and dates, for these meetings will be determined in the very near future, and posted at www.mgeu.ca.
