As part of Manitoba’s regional health authority mergers in 2012, the Provincial Government introduced Local Health Involvement Groups (LHIGs).

Each health authority is setting up a LHIG and their purpose is to provide Manitobans with a voice in the healthcare decisions that affect their families and their communities. People who care about health services in their communities can apply to become members. Regions will choose at least ten members to be a part of each LHIG for one to three years; the LHIGs will meet four times per year in person, by phone, or online or by Tele-Health.

The regions’ boards will suggest topics for the LHIGs to talk about. The LHIGS can also suggest their own topics for discussion.  These topics will look at the big picture of health services in the local area. The LHIGs will share their thoughts with the boards to help them make decisions.

For more information, or to find your region and apply to become a member of a LHIG, visit www.gov.mb.ca/health/lhig or call 1-855-259-9670.
