Correctional Officer Rhonda Commodore was laid to rest this weekend in The Pas.

Rhonda died in a highway accident while on duty and her passing has left The Pas, as well as the Manitoba Corrections Community, stricken with grief.

Dozens of Correctional Officers from The Pas, around Manitoba, and even other Provinces, attended Saturday’s memorial service to say goodbye to their friend and colleague. The Manitoba Corrections Honour Guard, along with honour guard members from the provincial EMS, Conservation, RCMP and Ontario Corrections were in attendance to pay their last respects.

"You can really feel the grief in the community – it’s just so very sad. Corrections has been hit hard by this tragedy – they are truly a family in mourning right now,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky at the service.

Rhonda Commodore will be remembered as a hard-working Correctional Officer; a fun-loving daughter, sister and friend; and a caring, loving mother to her six-year-old son Anthony.

A trust fund has been set up for Anthony. Contributions c/o the CIBC, The Pas Branch, or c/o Scotiabank, The Pas, account number 10587-03225-02, are greatly appreciated.
