The GOLICO Bargaining Committee has been in negotiations with the employer for a new Collective Agreement since May 2013. Their goal was simple – to ask for a reasonable wage increase, to get some improvements to benefits, and not to take any concessions.
However, on Thursday, October 23, 2014, the employer presented a final offer to the GOLICO Bargaining Committee with a package that contains many concessions. As a result of getting this final offer, the Committee must now take the offer out to the membership for a vote.
The GOLICO Bargaining Committee is not recommending the offer, as it could effectively mean less money, loss of sick time, changes to hours of work at the Distribution Centre, and loss of the retirement/termination allowance for any new employees. It also includes a major dismantling of the current benefits package, with a new benefits structure that the employer maintains it will not provide full details for until 2016.
Members are strongly encouraged to come out to any one of the following meetings to receive full details of the offer as presented, to ask questions, and to vote on the offer. Please bring your identification or union membership card.
