Add one part dirt to one part water, mix in some teamwork, sweat, determination and voilà, you have the recipe for two of the muddiest fundraisers in Manitoba: Mud Hero Winnipeg and the Manitoba MudRun. And MGEU members were right in the thick of it, literally, for both events this summer.
Team Bouvier, comprised of MGEU members from The Pas Correctional Centre, entered the Mud Hero event at Grand Beach on July 26, 2014. The team dedicated its run to Ed Bouvier, a much-loved Correctional Officer who recently passed away after a battle with cancer. Team Bouvier raised just over $1,500 in honour of Ed for CancerCare Manitoba.
A couple weeks later, the MGEU Young Members committee raised $1,000 in support of the Dauphin Rotary Club and MS Society of Manitoba by taking part in the second annual Manitoba MudRun in Dauphin.
As you may have guessed, both runs featured plenty of mud with obstacles thrown in to put a smile on the face of anyone ready to be mired in the muck. Where else could you get this filthy, have fun with your friends and raise some cash for a worthy cause?
