The MGEU Young Members Committee is putting their support behind Out of the Blue – a Southeastern Manitoba public awareness and education program that aims to inspire youth and inform the region about mental illness.

With funding from the Southern Regional Health Authority, the program promotes honest, open talk about mental health issues and suicide through school presentations and other community awareness activities. The program’s goal is to make mental health a priority in Southwestern Manitoba by creating a new voice for mental illness and reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues.

To help with that goal, the MGEU has contributed to the program’s Blue Carpet Gala – taking place tonight at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre in Steinbach.

“Our union is proud to support this event which seeks to raise awareness of and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health issues,” says Youth Committee Chair and MGEU 4th Vice President Scott Cloney. “No one should feel alone or scared to talk about mental illness and anything we can do to help, we will.”
