Members of MGEU Local 148 (Université de Saint-Boniface Professors) have ratified a new four-year collective agreement.
Negotiations began almost two years ago, and in March it appeared members would be headed to the picket lines as the USB professors felt the employer wasn’t doing enough to close the wage gap between them and professors working at other Manitoba universities. After the union achieved a strike vote and set the strike date for March 17th, the two parties met several times in order to avert the strike and keep USB professors off the picket line.
The new agreement includes a 2.0% wage increase in each of the four years as well as market adjustments in several classifications, and represents a lot of time and effort for MGEU staff and members. The union is pleased to have reached an agreement for employees without a work stoppage.
Once the agreements for the other two MGEU Locals at USB (Locals 147 and 149) are ratified, finalized copies of the agreements will be printed and distributed to all members.
