A week ago, MGEU Local 148 members (Université de Saint-Boniface Professors) voted in favour of taking strike action.

After almost two years at the bargaining table, USB professors felt the employer wasn’t doing enough to close the wage gap between them and professors working at other Manitoba universities. This continued to undermine the ability to effectively recruit new teaching staff.

Over the past week, the MGEU bargaining committee met several times with USB representatives in an effort to reach an agreement and avert a strike scheduled to begin Monday, March 17.

Today, the two sides did just that – reaching a four-year tentative agreement and keeping
USB professors off the picket line.

The MGEU bargaining committee’s next job is to prepare for a ratification vote which will take place on April 2. The committee will be sending Local 148 members more information about the vote as it becomes available.
