Today MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky spoke to a large gathering of health care workers and supporters at the Manitoba Legislative Building who were out to draw attention to the issue of short-staffing at Manitoba long-term care facilities.

The MGEU has long been advocating for fair treatment and an end to working short (i.e. additional workloads being placed on workers due to the lack of available replacement staff), and Gawronsky told of her own previous experience as a health care aide.

“I don’t just stand beside you in your fight for change in your workplaces. I’ve been in your shoes.  I have been a health care aide. I’ve worked short more times than I care to mention.”

The rally was a multi-union initiative that brought approximately 100 workers from facilities across the province together to stand in solidarity on behalf of Manitoba families and communities.
