Once again, some MGEU members have new bosses today, as Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has announced a significant cabinet shuffle.

The newly appointed ministers are:

  • James Allum, Minister of Education and Advanced Learning;
  • Erna Braun, Minister of Labour and Immigration; and
  • Sharon Blady, Minister of Healthy Living and Seniors

Several cabinet members have also taken on new portfolios.  These include the following:

  • Jennifer Howard, Minister of Finance
  • Erin Selby, Minister of Health
  • Theresa Oswald, Minister of Jobs and the Economy
  • Kerri Irvin-Ross, Minister of Family Services

Selinger indicated that focus of the new cabinet would be threefold: creating jobs and a strong economy; building and renewing the province’s infrastructure; and keeping Manitoba affordable and protecting consumers.

In addition to creating the new Department of Jobs and the Economy, which is headed by Theresa Oswald, the Premier indicated that he would add to his current responsibilities the provincial government’s skills strategy.
