This past Sunday, hundreds of Manitobans gathered at the Manitoba Legislature for the Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service.

Those who attended this somber and touching service ranged from Peace Officers in uniform to family and friends of fallen heroes to those who simply wanted to pay their respects.

“All Manitobans should take the opportunity to be a part of the Peace Officers Memorial Walk. It was really touching,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky who attended the service for the first time. “From the pipers leading the officers marching in tribute to their fallen co-workers to the lone sound of the trumpet playing ‘Taps,’ it reminded me of the lengths Peace Officers go to protect us.”

The service paid respect to 46 Manitoba Peace Officers who lost their lives in service dating back to 1880.
