Gawronsky brought attention to the results of a recent RHA-sponsored workplace survey as well as the concerns raised by Paramedics in the region; including some questionable management practices and lack of respect for the collective agreement on management’s behalf, the high number of unfilled positions, the shortage of available paramedic training, and scheduling / payroll problems.
Stinson indicated the RHA would look at completing a structure review, acknowledged the MGEU’s concerns, and agreed to meet with MGEU representatives as well as Ron Van Denakker (Vice President Corporate Services & Chief Administrative Officer - East), and Brenda Neufeld (Vice President of Acute Care and Chief Nursing Officer). A meeting date has not been set, but Gawronsky and Stinson both agreed that it would happen in the next two weeks.
“Today was a good first step on the part of the RHA. I feel they’re taking our issues seriously and I’m hopeful we’ll work towards a way in the next few weeks to address the problems our members have identified,” said Gawronsky. “At the same time, I told them today that our members have been more than patient – they’re tired of waiting.”
To help bring to light all of the issues facing members of MGEU Local 418 - Interlake-Eastern EMS, President Gawronsky is asking members of the Local to forward concerns about their workplace – along with their suggested solutions – in writing to one of their Local Representatives.
