Last week, MGEU member Kareen Thompson became the second recipient of the Peter Olfert Scholarship.

Kareen works as an Assistant House Manager with Metis CFCS (Local 383) in Winnipeg, but this fall she’s heading back to school as a full-time student to earn her Masters of Social Work (Social Policy Administration stream) at the University of Manitoba.

Former MGEU President Peter Olfert and MGEU Membership Education Committee Chair / 3rd Vice President Peter Roberts congratulated Kareen and presented her with a cheque for $2,000 to be used towards her studies.

Kareen admits it’s intimidating returning to school after working for a number of years but is very excited about where this educational opportunity will take her.

The Peter Olfert Scholarship is available to an individual studying in a field that potentially impacts public policy. Any registered, dues-paying member, or spouse of a member, or child or ward of a member, is eligible.
